An English-medium primary school, made in Toamasina.

King's Grammar School is the only school of its kind in eastern Madagascar: a serious British-style primary, taught by qualified native English teachers, following the Cambridge International curriculum from Nursery to Year 6.

01

Christian

Daily worship, weekly Bible teaching, and the school virtues — honesty, courage, kindness, reverence — woven into every lesson. Families of all faiths and none are warmly welcomed.

02

Cambridge

We follow the Cambridge International Primary curriculum, taught in English by qualified teachers, with formal Cambridge Primary Checkpoint assessment in Year 6.

03

Bilingual

English is the medium of instruction. French is taught daily from Nursery, building to full fluency by Year 6. Malagasy is celebrated as a home and cultural language.

04

Toamasina

We are a school of and for this city. Our curriculum, our King's Readers storybooks, and our school year are rooted in Madagascar and the rhythms of the east coast.

Portrait of the Head Teacher
A word from the Head

“We built this school for our own children first.”

Every parent in Toamasina deserves a primary school they can trust. One where children read fluently in English, speak French confidently, are known by name, and are taught by people who chose to be here. That is the school we have built — and the school we are still building, year by year.

Nursery to Year 6

A clear path from age three to eleven.

Nursery and Reception follow the EYFS framework. Years 1 to 6 follow Cambridge Primary. Each year group has a clear purpose — children are not passed through; they are taught what they need when they need it, and re-taught until they have it.

What sets us apart

We even write our own storybooks.

Madagascar has almost no English storybooks. So we wrote our own. The King's Readers is a graded series of fourteen books, set on the island, aligned to phonics, and used across the school from Reception to Year 6.
